Today In Texas

Luck Is A Lady For Lucky Texas lady

26 July, 2010

Former resident of Bishop, Texas resident Joan Ginther has defied the odds by winning the lottery not once, not twice, but four times. That’s right, four. Most people only dream of hitting it once!

What are the odds of this, you may ask? According to some mathematicians, the odds are one is 18 septillion. That looks like this: 18,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.

It couldn’t have happened to a nicer person. At least, we can only assume she’s nice. Ginther likes her privacy, going to great lengths to avoid publicity; including playing a voice mail message that instructs the caller to not leave a message.

I wonder what she will do with her winnings. I would imagine having an ADT Home Security system professionally installed in her home to help protect her from crazy people coming out of the woodwork, claiming to be her relatives. I can’t even imagine.

Unmanned Drones to Patrol Texas Border

25 June, 2010

The war on drugs and escalating border battles with Mexican drug cartels and subsequent increasing loss of innocent human life has the United States seeking unmanned patrol options.

The Federal Aviation Administration has approved the use of an unmanned aircraft to patrol the Texas-Mexico border after the Obama administration announced Wednesday that it will station an aerial drone in Texas.

President Obama asked Congress for $500 million in emergency border security that will include 1,000 more Border Patrol officers to join 1,200 National Guard troops who are heading to the region and two more unmanned drones.

With immigration on the hot plate and bordering American states bracing for what is certainly to become an uglier situation, this is most definitely an interesting issue and I'm curious to see the effectiveness of the unmanned patrol drones.

Taking proactive measures in our own safety is never a bad idea, and ADT Home Security has a variety of options that are sure to suit your needs, whether you live near the border or not.

Reefer Madness for Chace Crawford

11 June, 2010

Chace Crawford, Gossip Girl's hunky heartthrob, was recently arrested in Plano, Texas for possession of marijuana.

Crawford was in a parked vehicle early Friday morning, according to Police spokesman Rick McDonald, when he was arrested. He was booked and released on a misdemeanor charge of possessing less than two ounces of the reefer. Madness!

Known as "Nate Archibald" to Gossip Girl fans, Crawford was listed by People magazine as its hottest bachelor last summer. He also won last year's Teen Choice Awards for actor in a TV drama.

Are you a fan of Footloose and watch every rerun possible on DISH Network? If so, you'll be pleased to know that Crawford is lined up to star in the upcoming remake of the 1984 film.

Super Cat to The Rescue!

4 June, 2010

A cat can’t protect you like an ADT Home Security system can, but apparently it can protect you from a pit bull attack.

Cherry Woods, a 39-year-old Texas woman claims she was walking home in the 2300 block of Short Springs Court in Pearland, when pit bulls started charging her. She was knocked down several times while fending off the dogs.

Hearing her screams, Harold Woods, her husband, unsuccessfully attempted to remove the dogs from his wife. Lima, the cat, came to the rescue by throwing himself into the mix, distracting the dogs long enough for Harold to grab his wife and haul her inside the house.

The dogs were put under quarantine at the City of Pearland’s Animal Shelter, pending a hearing that will determine their fate: home or death. “We’re taking this very seriously” said animal control supervisor Shari Coleman.
